About Travertine

Travertine derives from Tivertino, the former Roman name of the Tivoli town in Italy where Travertine

is commonly found. Color, texture and so on. The physical properties of the travertine, such as the

building stone industry, the garden landscape, pool deck , interior and exterior areas are easily

processed and intensively preferred decorative solid stones. Travertens is light and exhibit variable

stiffness due to their being in a porous tissue.

These stones are white, beige, yellow, pink or gray. Despite their porous structure, they are very hard

and durable.

A very large portion of the world's traverten reserve is located in Turkey

Forms of landscape use:

Travertines are important stones that have a lot of use in the field of construction and landscaping. We

remove large blocks it from the stone quarry and cut it to make the flooring material.

They are used extensively because they are  easy to remove from the quarry, easy to process and

cut, and are beautiful in color.

It is usually produced in 1,2 cm,2 cm or 3 cm thickness.

It is mainly used as wall and floor covering material

It is usually preferred on stairs, terraces, garden paths, pool deck, pool area, and decorative wall

claddings (interior and exterior walls) wine cellar, kitchen, kitchen countertops,  bathroom, indoor and

outdoor flooring

Types of travertine in Turkey according to their colors and textures:

Ivory Travertine,

Light Travertine,

Classic Travertine,

Leonardo Travertine,

Valencia Travertine,

Scabos Travertine,

Noce Travertine,

Wallnut Travertine

Silver Travertine

According to cut shape:

Vein Cut Travertine : It is a cut perpendicular to the

travertine layers. All natural beauty and linear structure of the travertine are revealed.

Cross Cut Travertine : It is a cut in parallel to the Travertine layers. This type of cut gives less

movement and a stable texture appearance. The waterlines are invisible.

According to flooring shape: Travertine Paver, Travertine Tile, Travertine French Pattern Set,

Travertine wall, Split face Travertine, Travertine Wall cladding and Travertine Mosaic

Surface shaping techniques:

Honed : Semi-matting of the surface of the travertine tile with certain abrasives is called honing. It

resembles a good honed surface satin texture. It provides a surface that is neither brilliant nor coarse

to reflect the light.

Polished: Polishing is the process of bringing the surface of a travertine tile to a perfectly smooth

surface so that it reflects light with certain abrasive groups.

Brushed (Patinato): The process of abrading the surface of the travertine tile with a special abrasive

brush to an aged texture.

Chiseled Edge (Edge Breaking): Traverten is a process of gaining an antique, aged texture by

breaking the edges of the tile slightly by mechanical processes. Brushing creates a good pair with the

Tumbled: Traverten products are aged with mechanical means, provides an antique wonderful

surface,most popular surface treatment.

Filled: Filling the voids or pores found naturally in the travertine with special cement (produced using

traverten dust).

Natural stone is economical when evaluated in terms of cost;

Although the first test is expensive, natural stone is a very economical material because it can be

used for centuries without losing its function in the applied fields. The life of concrete construction and

finishing materials is short. Although it can maintain its sturdiness for a long time, it loses its visual

qualities in a fairly short time compared to natural stones. For this reason, it needs to be renewed

periodically. Therefore, these materials are economically more expensive than the natural stone in the

first test, but are quite expensive in the long run.

Natural stone is durable and sturdy ;

Natural stone has high wear resistance against pressure and atmospheric phenomena. Most of the

natural stones are long lasting materials that can protect form and texture for centuries. Indeed,

examples of stone structures that have survived for centuries are the most beautiful. Concrete

building products and coating materials, on the other hand, are subject to snow, heavy frost, etc. In

such situations they crack and shred. Even the life of the most rugged material can never reach the

natural stone life. When we look at the environment, we can observe that these types of materials

have been constantly renewed and replaced in short periods.

Natural stone is ecological andharmonious with nature.

Natural stone is almost complete in nature in

order to be used as a building material. Only

energy is required to remove and process the

stone from the quarry, which is much less

than is necessary for concrete building

products. Natural stones are usually cut out

from the quarry without making big blows.

Unused wastes are mixed again in nature.

In other words, natural stone eventually

returns to nature. It does not contain any harmful substances to health. It is not flammable and does

not release any substances that are harmful to health during the fire. The amount of energy and fossil

fuels used to produce concrete building and finishing materials are more harmful to nature.

Residual waste from production will lead to environmental pollution if released to the environment.

The natural stone is impressive and allows for the realization of original designs;

The natural stone is a natural product that has characteristics

that vary according to the shape of the texture, the color

alternatives, the minerals that make up it. Diversity is further

increased by surface treatment. These properties are

different from all man made construction materials.

It is a unique product of nature that can be combined with other natural stone types which are

compatible with both hardness and texture properties as well as with many other building materials.

Natural stones are removed from the quarry in large blocks and cut at the desired scale. There is no

standard size for natural stone production. The size of the plates is the size of the block. Sizes can be

determined according to need. It can be provided in any desired shape, not just rectangular plates.

With these features, the designer offers a wide range of options to create the appearance and texture

that they desire. Concrete building materials are fabricated products produced according to certain

standards and specific molds. Color palettes are very limited. They can not be resized for custom designs.

Because a suitable mold is formed to produce a material in desired sizes and the amount produced at

one time is quite large. Otherwise the unit cost of the product increases considerably. Therefore, the

designer has to make designs according to the standard dimensions of the concrete materials. That is

to say, It is not the imagination of the designer, but the standard size and appearance of the materials.
